Now another bad thing to do is act out of turn (fold, call, raise) before it is your turn. This can effect your opponent’s decisions.

Also do not ever discuss your hand you folded or have during the hand.

Criticizing another player is also a big ‘no no’. Using abusive language is not polite and isn’t necessary.

Doing any of these can make players mad and get you penalties in live play.

Poker is all about deceit at times, and playing a bluff is completely acceptable. If you are good enough at bluffing you stand a good chance of putting your opponent in a losing situation.

If you are playing against a professional, they take note of everything you have done to them in previous hands and calculate their position based on this . So remember betting patterns against certain players when you bluff or on a big hand.

Putting more pressure on a player is easier in a tournament then in regular poker tables as unless you win you cannot re-buy and come back to the tournament.

I prefer to play mid suited connectors like 7/6 of hearts I’ll play to see a flop no raise just call and if the bet is too high I fold them.

Many players prefer to play small suited connectors, but I prefer to avoid these. Every now and again I will, but it depends on how the other players are playing and my gut feelings.

I will also play connectors i.e: 8/9 off suite for the big blind price.

I fold any card that is more than a 5, unless of course it is a face card.

Any cards that are 3 cards apart ie:7/4 can be played but only at right price and if they are suited.

Cards that are 2 cards apart i.e: 6/4 can be played suited or not for the right price and I never raise with these or call a big raise.

This is just how I like to play my poker, but of course every player is different. Maybe some of my tips will work for you, and some others wont. My best tip is to go with your gut instinct and hopefully it will be right.

The first thing I felt I needed to know was how pot odds actually worked in order to make the most money I could!

Pot odds, and what it means: The amount of money in the pot compared to the amount you must put in the pot to continue playing. Suppose there is $60 in the pot. Somebody bets $6, so the pot now contains $66. It costs you $6 to call, so your pot odds are 11:1. If your chance of having the best hand is at least one out of twelve, you should call.

Now after this is completed a round of betting will occur after each card dealt. Best five card hand wins.

Seven stud hi-lo – This is virtually the same as normal stud, however a the high and low hands split the pot.

Razz – This is a version of seven stud but the best low hand wins.

Badugai – This is a four card triple draw game where the goal is to make best low hand with a card from each suit.

Five card triple draw – This is standard five card draw with 3 draws at making the best low hand.

Finally Horse – This is a mixture of multiple games and is the most difficult one of all.
