A deck of card and a set of poker chips is what are basically required to play poker. 52 cards are what is found in a deck of card. The deck of card is further divided into four suites that constitute hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs. Each suite constitutes fourteen cards Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, nine to one. The winner is determined in the final round of betting where the hands are compared and the best hand is entitled to win the pot.
To name a few popular variations in poker the list goes as follows Texas Holdem, Omaha, Seven Card stud, Horse Poker and Razz. There might be a slight variation in the rules in the different poker variations but the basic rules would be similar and almost all variation has betting rounds and hand ranking system. The highest hand in all poker variations except in Hi/low poker variation wins the pot.
An option of wild card is provided in few poker variations where joker is used to replace a particular card so that better hand can be formed. Wild card is least preferred by experienced and professional players as the facility would make the experts lack their probabilities and calculations hence they would find hard to win by strategy under such circumstances.
Whole cards and community cards are common terms that we come across while playing almost all variations in poker. A few variations that are played with community cards are Texas Holdem, Omaha and seven card studs. Whole cards are always dealt face down and are hence only visible to the player to whom it is dealt.
Community cards are quite the contrary to whole cards and are hence dealt face up. The community cards can be used by all the players to form their set of hand and are visible to all the players. Most of the poker variation includes both community cards as well as whole cards. The different betting rounds of most of the variations are as follows pre flop, flop, turn and river.
The hands are formed according to the predetermined and commonly followed ranking sequence. The best hand wins the pot and the hand value is assessed according to the predetermined ranking chart. The hands are assessed in the show down where each of the players opens up their hand to compare which one is the highest among the various hand combinations.
The highest among the hands is the royal flush which is also considered to be the rarely obtainable hand. A player is secure with a royal flush and will definitely win the pot. Since a royal flush is the highest hand no one can defeat such hand but there are other variations in poker (hi/low poker) where the weakest hand can also win and player holding one pair can win the pot in such variation.
The other hand combination that succeeds a royal flush are as follows straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair and high card. The players form the best hand according to the above ranking sequence. With experience and the basic knowledge in poker you can earn huge profits.
