There are only two players who won poker’s Triple Crown – World Poker Tour (WPT) title; European Poker Tour (EPT) title and the World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet. Roland de Wolfe is the second man who gained the three titles when he won $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha 8 bracelet this year. He even wore a Union Jack track suit during the final table of the WSOP game to tell the world that he’s proud to be an Englishman.
The first player to get the Triple Crown is none other than Gavin Griffin. He got his first from the $3,000 Pot Limit Hold ‘EM event at the WSOP in 2004; his second came from winning the EPT Grand Final title in 2007 and he finished the crown with his win on the WPT Borgata Classic in 2008.
Roland garnered the first crown of his Triple Crown in 2005 when he won the WPT Grand Prix de Paris. The second one in 2006 when he succeeded during the EPT Dublin Title and then he won his final crown during the $5,000 PLO8 at the 2009 WSOP succeeding against 197 players including Gavin Griffin himself.
Once a writer in a poker magazine named Edge, De Wolfe admitted that he’s really not familiar with the poker kind that gave him his first WSOP bracelet. He said that he just mixed his comprehension from both the PLO and limit Omaha 8 and came out successful.
Roland was already a known face at the European and American poker scene beginning on 2005 when he first made his first WSOP cash in an NLHE event. But do you also know that De Wolfe hugest win came not from the three events where he got his triple crown but from being 3rd in the $25,000 WPT Championship he participated in 2006? He got at least a million dollar from that event.
The WSOP crown was his first win in the US soil but he has a great record in his preceding WSOP events including 14 WSOP cashes and at least $650,000 in WSOP earning throughout his career.
The two member club will soon increase its number due to the large number of participants playing in the EPT each year. Lots of American poker pros have been traveling in Europe in order to bag an EPT win in their pockets.
Maybe in the near future the Aussie Millions and the Asian Pacific Poker Tour will be augmented to the EPT, WPT and WSOP to create a Grand Slam.
